Fast forward to 2124, one hundred years from today. Something amazing has happened. There is no more gender inequality, and no more people having to conform to oppressive expectations about how to look or to behave. Our forests have been saved. Our fishing has become sustainable. Our consumption habits are less wasteful. 0Our cities are great places to live with less pollution and more green spaces. Can you imagine this? Well, the BA Digital Media 3rd-year students have. Drawing from notions of speculative futures, they imagined better futures by making digital and physical artefacts connected to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They made videos, podcasts, artistic installations, statues, sculptures, posters, sketchbooks, and mobile phone apps, amongst many other cool things. We'd love for you to come and see them! We will reward your presence with creativity and talent, but also some nibbles and drinks. Spread the word and we hope to see you there.

Our students explore a wide range of themes and concerns: from deeply personal work about family, history, race, gender, mental health and identity to the shifting demographics caused by urban and rural gentrification. Love, desire and the complications of romantic and familial relationships are celebrated, while feelings of grief and loss are confronted. Some use their photography to honour the resilience and determination of their families and communities. The work produced in this year’s degree show is a testament to the determination and ambition of our students, their diverse approaches are pulled together by a common sense of purpose; to explore, understand and communicate through their photography, to invite you to look, to feel and to share.

The 2024 MRES final show ‘Perpetual Flux’ sheds light on some of the key moments of continuity and change, and the dialogues explored, during the collective research journey experienced on the MRes Creative Practice. There is a strong participatory nature to the show, which asks the viewer to situate themselves close to the diverse themes explored in the gallery. Shared conversations flow from installations, photography, clay and video works, inviting gallery visitors to engage in their own reflection on community, landscape, memory and touch.
