Year 1
The studio aims to support students in developing their fundamental architectural design abilities through workshops and lectures.
Students crafted individual illustration essays centred around Le Corbusier’s Villa Savoye and some chosen buildings within the City of Westminster. They also participated in a local walking tour, exploring an emerging architect's self-built house in East London and notable landmarks nearby. This experience gave them insight into the impact of architecture on its users.
Inspired by these encounters, students designed a compact residence that optimally utilized a designated plot adjacent to the University of Westminster, accommodating 50 student units. Using various mediums such as physical models, hand drawings, and computer-aided design (CAD), students could solidify their grasp of spatial qualities and practical considerations, laying a sound foundation for their architectural comprehension.
